Former President, Verizon-Vermont

V. Louise McCarren is Former President, Verizon-Vermont. In this role, Louise served as Vermont's chief Verizon executive, representing all areas of the corporation and having responsibility for service, earnings, government and regulatory affairs, public policy and economic development.

A Vermont resident for almost 30 years, McCarren was a consultant to NYNEX from 1993 to 1995 when she worked to develop a long-term alternative regulatory plan in New York.

In 1995 she joined NYNEX as managing director for State Regulatory Planning in New York. Prior to joining NYNEX, McCarren served as assistant to the president at the University of Vermont from 1991 to 1993, chair of the Public Service Board from 1981 to 1987 and as commissioner of the Vermont Department of Public Service in 1991. Louise also held positions as senior vice president for the Chittenden Bank and was a partner at the law firms of Sheehey Brue Gray and Furlong, and Blodgett and McCarren, both in Burlington.

Louise is a member of the Board of Directors of the Vermont Business Roundtable, Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, The ISO-New England and The New England Council, National Life of Vermont, a member of the Board Trustees of Vermont Law School and Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Louise earned her BA from the University of California, Berkley, and holds a JD from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a resident of Charlotte, VT.
