Anti-Piracy Counsel, Recording Industry Association of America

Jonathan Whitehead has extensive legal experience in the fields of Internet piracy, online commerce and intellectual property serving as anti-piracy counsel for the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The RIAA is a Washington, D.C. based trade association that represents hundreds of member record companies responsible for creating, manufacturing and distributing more than 90 percent of all legitimate sound recordings sold in the United States.

Jonathan provides legal counsel to RIAA member companies regarding copyright law and the Internet. In that capacity, he is counsel to RIAA's Internet anti-piracy program. Jonathan also administers "SoundByting," a successful University/College copyright education campaign created to help college and university administrators teach students about the value of copyrighted sound recordings on the Internet.

Jonathan regularly represents the recording industry at entertainment, technology and University conferences. As a panelist or public speaker, he discusses in detail the role of intellectual property in an emerging online market and the degree to which Internet piracy has affected its growth.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University, and a J.D., magna cum laude, from American University's Washington College of Law.
