About Me
Aaron Abend graduated from Middlebury in 1977 with a BA in Political Philosophy and a concentration in Economics, studying with Murray Dry, Paul Nelson, and of course, Michael Claudon. Aaron moved to Washington, DC where he worked in consulting as an analyst on transportation and energy policy. Finding public sector less interesting than his political science courses had led him to believe, he returned to school to earn an MBA at Columbia University in New York City. At his first job as a financial analyst, he was handed a computer printout from one computer and asked to type the information into another computer. He refused to do this, but offered to get the two computers to talk to with each other. He quickly discovered 2 things. First, that he did not have the skills, yet, to get computers to talk with each other. But second, and more important, he discovered that computer software development was, in a word, a blast. He took a job on Wall Street working on software for bond traders, and discovered that bond salesmen needed a way to track their calls, and he developed one of the first customer relationship management systems, in 1982. In 1984, he was offered a position with a venture backed startup in Silicon Valley. There he solidified his technical expertise. In 1985, he left to start his own company, CallBack Software, which developed and marketed one of the first Customer Relationship Management products.
The product achieved modest success (not quite a cash cow -- more a "cash calf"). The proceeds of CallBack were reinvested into, Viapoint, which he founded in April 2002. Viapoint was launched in 2004 and is available for download at www.viapoint.com.
In 2005, a second contract with Partners Healthcare led him into the healthcare data warehousing business. He established his third company, Recombinant Data, and today is focused on growing that company's business.
